m. (Unknown, died during passage to New England)
m. Susannah (Maiden name unknown) circa 1635
William Manning, probably from the vicinity of Chelmsford, Essex, England, (sources indicate Braintree as the town) left his home for the newly formed American colony at Massachusetts Bay in the year 1634. With him were his wife and William Jr., his only known son. His wife died during the crossing, and little is known of her. Settling initially in Roxbury, Massachusetts, he relocated first to Boston, and then to Cambridge, where his son established permanent residence. William Manning Sr. was the first Manning (in our line) in America, and the ancestor of a clan which has spread over the entire continent. He is the oldest known ancestor of the Mannings in America.
